2005 CONCERT REVIEWS December 18,2005: Hey good people, First of all please allow me to extend a Happy Holiday greetings to each member in the DHBG and their love ones.I hope that everyone iswell prepared for this joyus time of the year. Last night I attended a show at the house that B.B. King built. That famous house is Club Ebony in Indianola,Mississippi.I got a chance to see the "BAD BOY OF SOUTHERN SOUL", Mr. T.K. Soul perform.I was joined in attendance by one of our DHBG members who has been verysupportive to me and my website. She is very lo-key in the DHBG butshe follows the message board and click on my website every singleday. She is affectionally known as Bluzlover_4ever(Dot) and she cameall the way from Tuskegee,Alabama with her cousin Felecia to join meat Club Ebony. It was truly great to enjoy a show with someone who hasa deep passion and appreciation for the blues and southern soul music. When I arrived at Club Ebony I was kind of disappointed because the house was not packed like usual. It was still a nice crowd but with an establish entertainer like T.K. Soul you would have expected standing room only.Bluzlover and her cousin had a table and a seat waiting for me.The DJ was playing various artists music and I was informed by Bluzlover that they had played a lot of T.K. Soul songs. The music was setting the tone for the show.Willie Clayton's "Love Mechanic" had a few of the people in attendance on the dance floor cutting a rug. The show opened up with T.K. Soul being led to the stage by his manager and his bodyguard. He was dressed in a boxer's robe that would have made Sugar Ray Leonard jealous.Once he hit the stage he began to Set It Off.He opened the show with "She's Bad" and he immediately left the stage and came down to the audience. He began dancing with the women and the crowd went wild.I guess the women in Club Ebony were able to get back at their husbands and boyfriends if they saw Bobby Rush here about a month ago.It was the women turn on this night and believe me they were only just beginning.I love to see the artist in this genre allow the crowd to be a part of their show.He continue the show with "All The Man You Need" and the women gave him a thunderous ovation. He swooned the ladies with this song.He performed "Short Skirts,Tight Jeans" and the dance floor got packed. It was good to see the people in attendance up and dancing and really enjoying the show.He followed that up with "One Woman Man" and "My Kind Of Girl" and once again he left the stage and went into the audience. He stood on tables and began a lot of hip swerving and slow grinding dance motions and the women in attendance loved every minute of it.By now he had the audience deep into his show.He performed his xmas song titled "I Want You(For Christmas)and this is really a nice slow xmas ballad and the dance floor was once again packed. He kept the crowd going with "Cheating And Lying","Where Jody Stay","Straight No Chaser"which included a soul train line that really got everybody involved. He closed the show with my personal favorite,"My Life". After the show we took a few photos and he granted me my first official interview.I got to meet every member of his crew including his band members, body guard, manager and even his son.I am very appreciative to him for opening up to me and allowing me the time to sit and really talk to him.I am going to edit my interview and then send it to T.K. Soul for his approval.Once he approves the scripts from our interview I will post it on my website. For all you T.K. Soul fans please join T.K.Soul for his first annual Mother's Day Cruise.Sail May 15-20,2006 on the CARNIVAL ECSTASY.For more information on the cruise and other T.K.Soul news please go to his website www.mrtksoul.com I posted a few photos from last night show in my photo album.I hope you all enjoy them.To Bluzlover_4ever(Dot)I want to thank you and your cousin Felicia for joining me on this night.I wish that I didn't have to work because I really wanted to show you some more Mississippi Delta hospitality.I hope that this is just the beginning for us to start bluzing together.Thank you I had a great time.To the DHBG I had a wonderful time last night and as alwaysI wanted to share it with you.My work schedule is hectic right nowbut I still follow the group on the message board.MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU. LOVE, BIG K9 November 5,2005: I just came back from Club Ebony(Indianola,MS) attending a show with Bobby Rush and Denise Lasalle.Club Ebony is a local juke joint that has seen the likes of B.B. King,Albert King,Ray Charles,Count Basie and a countless number of other blues legends.Last night was a night filled with deep blues, good people and plenty of food and drinks. The house was standing room only, the DJ at the club was playing various artists music as the people waited for the show to begin. The music set a nice tone for the show.Denise Lasalle came on stage and the packed house gave her a roaring ovation.Since this was a real juke joint the Queen was x-rated tonight. She worked the crowd with her powerful voice and her trademark explicit lyrics added to the words in her songs. She only did a limited selection of her hits but she got the house rocking.Bobby Rush then hit the stage with his dancers and LAWD HAVE MERCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OOOOOOOOOO-WEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The place exploded.I've seen his show numerous times and I have seen his dancers perform but I guess the smaller the club the bigger the party, throw in some gin and juice chased with cold beer made this the best Bobby Rush show that I have ever seen. This is the best showman in the game today period.Every song had everyone on their feet.He was very explicit last night also. The house was singing, dancing and laughing during the whole performance. He had the ladies going wild with his hip swinging moves and raw lyrics and of course the dancers had the fellas losing their minds, the dancers received thunderous ovations every time Bobby Rush directed the show their way.I won't go into details lets just say I know some wives and girlfriends had some words for their husbands and boyfriends after this show.LAWD HAVE MERCY!He ended his first show with material from his new cd.Nite Fishing is da bomb.He ripped the stage up with that performance.I know a lot of you have heard Nite Fishing on The American Blues Network but if Bobby Rush is in your area please go checkout that performance.I got the oppurtunity to meet recording artist Bill Coday and his lovely wife who happens to be Denise Lasalle's manager.I spent some quality time talking to Denise Lasalle. She is truly a down to earth woman. She talked to me about her friendship with Bobby Rush that has expanded four decades and she talked about her club that she has opened in Jackson,Tennessee.I gave her my website address and she told me that she will be checking me out.Thats why I love doing this blues and southern soul THANG.I told her that I was appreciative that she spent the time that she did talking to me we took a few photos and I kissed the Queen on the cheek and left the building.I had a great time last night and I just wanted to share it with you all.I wanted to take some photos with Bobby Rush but it was getting late and I had to leave for Memphis early in the morning.I had one of my best times last night at Club Ebony(HOLE IN THE WALL). Big K9 NOVEMBER 14,2005: Hey blues and southern soul fans, I just got back from Tallahassee,Florida(T-Town) where I attended a birthday bash for Hazel"Music Lady"Williams and a CD release party for my friend Walter Waiters.First of all let me thank the wonderful people from THE-DOWN-HOME-BLUES-GROUP,Hazel,Beverly(Bell Ann) and Karen Polka for making this country boy feel right at home. You all should take a bow for real. You all were terrific.Friday was Hazel's birthday so for everyone who didn't know please wish her a belated Happy Birthday! 2005 has been one hell of a blues and southern soul ride for me.I've had my bright sunny days on this ride but I've also had a few dark and cloudy days as well.First there was the passing of our beloved Tyrone Davis, follwed by the tragic death of the beautiful Jackie Neal.A couple of months ago saw the passing of the great Little Milton Campbell. Those are a few of the dark and cloudy days. This ride had some nice sunny days.Seeing Jackie Neal perform for the first and only time,I saw the legendary Bobby Blue Bland,Shirley Brown and Sir Charles perform for the very first time.I got the oppurtunity to talk to and know Omar Cunningham,Willie Clayton,Denise Lasalle and Marvin Sease personally.I've been in contact through the internet with recording artists Stan Mosley,Donna Lynne and Pat Brown.I enjoy the music of all these artists.Their music is truly soul-stirring,it captures the mind, the heart and soul of each and every individual who really enjoys the blues and southern soul music. Saturday night my ride continued to T-Town.On this night I got to see a very talented and gifted young man perform.First of all let me start by saying that Walter Waiters is truly a BLUES MAN.An amazing blues man if you will.I read on his website that someone stated that the future of the blues is in good hands, damn right it is.I was simply blown away by his performance. His live vocals reminded me of T.K.Soul and Omar Cunningham, his tributes to all the blues pioneers who paved the way for him reminded me of Willie Clayton, his stage presence, showmanship that included a lot of hip swerving for the ladies reminded me of Bobby Rush and his genuis style on the keyboard reminded me of B.B. King,Buddy Guy and the late great Albert King.As he opened the show I glanced around the room to see how the crowd was going to respond and then he started on Rufus Thomas "Walking The Dog".He captured the crowd with that one number. His version was especially pleasing to the women. When he went into his dance motion the women were won over instantly.Last week I saw Bobby Rush" Night Fishing" and tonight I got to see Walter Waiters" Walking The Dog",even Rufus Thomas had to smile at that performance. Walter is terrific in getting the crowd involved in his show.He began performing Ray Charles "The Night Time ,Is The Right Time" he left the stage and asked was there any woman in the house that could help him with the song.A local T-Town young lady named Gloria began belting out Margie Hendrix gut wrenching vocals,LAWD HAVE MERCY and the house went wild,Walter affectionally dubbed her Margie. She later joined him on stage and they performed another Ray Charles hit"What I'd Say".Walter allowing the crowd to get involved was truly a special moment during the show. His genuis on the keyboard came across again when he performed "You Don't Miss Your Water, Til Your Well Runs Dry" by William Bell. His work on the keyboard(horn section he calls it}you would have thought the Memphis Horns were actually in the building and on stage live.I was awe struck by that.I learned one thing about Walter on this night, the boy does not know where he is from.He claims to be from the midwest but this blues man hails from the Mississippi Delta. He went into a number of foot-stomping and hand-clapping down home Mississippi Delta blues.Howlin Wolf and Son House had to be looking down smiling tonight. He had the crowd moving with his deep traditonal blues. The only thing missing were the chittlins, collard greens and cornbread.Once again his one man band(the Keyboard} had you believing that Buddy Guy and Albert king were on guitar. If B.B. King has Lucille then Walter Waiters keyboard is her little sister Lucy.I've listen to Walter's music a lot this year but I've never grooved to any of his songs but all that changed on this night. With my DHBG help we cut-a-rug out on the dance floor."Don't Scratch My Back" got me off my feet first."Creepin" and "Careful Woman" kept me dancing. The crowd were really into his music by now and I thought it was great how he did his own music in between songs from other artists such as Ray Charles,William Bell,Otis Redding and Little Milton. He had the place rocking especially with his song "I Can Feel" and Kaylah's Boogie. He closed the show with a bang.He performed one of my favorite songs(It Don't Hurt No More). He paid a tribute to his mentor and friend the Silver Fox,Buddy Ace.Once again he left the stage and moved to a table with a couple of young ladies. He stood up on the table and began to dance. The boy did his thing and the ladies went crazy. He captured the hearts of all the females with that one.His stage presence and showmanship is right up there with Bobby Rush. This was one of the best shows that I have attended this year.On this night I witness a real BLUES MAN perform. He shouted like B.B.King and acted like Bobby Bland. My favorite part of the show was hearing all the positive and wonderful things that the people in T-Town had to say about Walter After the show he signed autographs and took pictures with many that were in attendance including the members of The Shriners Club that allowed him to perform in T-Town.He won the hearts of the people in T-Town so much that he was asked to come back again in Febuary and then again in October. Please be sure to checkout his website at www.walterwaiters.com for more information on these and other upcoming shows. Also please purchase his new CD "Just Me".I played it from T-Town all the way back to the country.
